Five soldiers from the IDF’s artillery corps were punished for refusing to share a room with religious soldiers who are also yeshiva students, Army Radio reported on Friday.

According to the report, two of the soldiers were sentenced to eight days in prison and the other three were sentenced to probation.

Sources in the IDF said that the three of the soldiers were sentenced only to probation since they apologized over the incident, and were also not as adamant on demonstrating against the religious soldiers as the other two.

The IDF Spokesperson said, "The soldiers' behavior is inconsistent with what is expected of IDF soldiers. The commanders view this behavior very harshly, and therefore the five soldiers were tried."
