US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman met with the families of two Druze Border Police officers who were murdered in a terror attack near the Temple Mount last Friday.

On Thursday, Ambassador Friedman traveled to the northern town of Maghar, where he met with relatives of Haiel Sitawe and Kamil Shnaan, the two officers who were gunned down by Arab terrorists outside the Temple Mount.

Maghar, a predominantly Druze and Christian Arab community in the eastern Galilee, is home to a large number of officers serving in the Israel Police and Border Police forces.

Ambassador Friedman paid his condolences to Shnaan and Sitawe’s families in a meeting he described as “heartbreaking”.

“Met today with families of Haiel Sitawe and Kamil Shnaan who were murdered last week defending the Temple Mount,” Friedman tweeted. “Heartbreaking. Praying for these two beautiful families.”

Last week, Friedman offered his thoughts and prayers for the two bereaved families shortly after the officers’ deaths were announced.

“Shocked and horrified by the despicable attack today in Jerusalem. Terrorism must be condemned by all and defeated. We pray for the victims. I have learned that two of those attacked have passed. My thoughts and prayers are with their families,” adding in Hebrew “May God console you.”
