Former Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon sharply criticized his replacement, Avigdor Liberman.

Liberman had taunted Ya'alon for the fact that, as Defense Minister, Ya'alon remained silent and was a partner in the Prime Minister's now-controversial decision to purchase submarines from Germany, Liberman added that Ya'alon only recently seems to have recalled that Netanyahu was "corrupt" at the time the decision was made.

In an interview with Army Radio, Ya'alon retorted, calling Liberman "a liar who spent years in interrogation rooms," and saying, "I do not want someone like Liberman to preach to me, someone who spent so many hours in interrogation offices being questioned. This is someone who served as a member of the Knesset and as a minister and did business with accounts in Cyprus."

On the subject of the Netanyahu investigation, Ya'alon said, "Until February 2016, I did not believe Netanyahu was corrupt, I did not believe he would prefer to make money over national interests. Even if on the criminal level they can not connect the Prime Minister - from the public standpoint, he is finished."

The former Defense Minister also referred to the attack that took place on Friday on the Temple Mount: "I was in favor of strengthening security by installation of magnetometers, and I think it is time to strengthen security there because someone took advantage of the breach. There were those who thought a holy place was off limits for such a scenario."

"The trend of Israeli Arabs is toward Israelization rather than Islamization," Ya'alon said."But there will always be extremist elements that need to be addressed."
