MK Eitan Broshi (Zionist Union) on Wednesday expressed confidence that the Labor party, under newly elected leader Avi Gabbay, would return to power.

"We feel good. After a long and democratic process in which all the components of Israeli society took part, Avi Gabbay was elected and we respect the decision and pledge to stand together as one person behind him,” Broshi told Arutz Sheva.

He predicted that upcoming polls will show a significant strengthening of the Labor party.

"People have been waiting to see who will be the party's new leader and we expect that all the votes that have gone from us to Yair Lapid, whose party is a ‘parking lot party’, will come back to us. Avi Gabbay is succeeding in generating a great momentum for the party,” said Broshi, who opined that the next Knesset election is not far off.

"It's a fact that in recent years, governments have not served their full terms in Israel and therefore I think there will be elections, the question is when,” he said.

“In my opinion, the Likud has a good reason to be worried, because in the right in general and in the Likud in particular there are quite a few splits. Some favor two states and some are against; in short, the Likud today is not a single unit. Of course there is the question of the investigations and that can have an impact as well,” added Broshi.

A poll released on Tuesday found that Gabbay is already beginning to bypass Lapid in popularity, and that the Kulanu party, headed by Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon, has also lost ground to Labor since Gabbay's victory.

But, despite Gabbay’s victory, polls released before he was elected found that the Likud would maintain its Knesset majority in the next election regardless of who heads Labor.
