US President Donald Trump on gave an interview to Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom, after promising to do so beforehand.

Israel Hayom Editor-in-Chief Boaz Bismuth spoke about the interview and what had preceded it.

"Do you understand how many things happened this week?" Trump asked Bismuth. "But I promised you an interview before I left for Israel, and I keep my word, right?"

"Did you notice that I recognized you at the press conference? I smiled at you," Trump added, apologizing for the fact that time was short.

Bismuth asked Trump what he thinks the recent rumors may cause.

Trump said, "I don't know what the reason for it is, Boaz, but it's bad. They're using it (the reports about Russia) as an excuse to attack me, and it's pathetic."

Regarding the chance of Israel and the PA coming to an agreement, Trump said, "Today we have an amazing opportunity to make a deal. David Friedman is our ambassador. He's a great deal-maker. He makes deals amazingly. So does Jason Greenblatt.

"The two of them together, along with some other people, means that we've got a very good chance of reaching an agreement."

Though rumors claim no Israeli officials will accompany Trump to the Western Wall, the President himself said, "We haven't yet decided what my trip to the Western Wall will look like. We greatly honor Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, and we decided to honor his request that the rabbi join us. That's what's customary. But it could still change."

Regarding Trump's discussion with Saudi Arabia about the Iranian nuclear threat, Bismuth said, "At some point in the discussion, he called in his son-in-law and confidante Jared Kushner, who is now Trump's Special Envoy to the Middle East. The US is now deciding what will happen in the region, and Iran is seen as the bad guy... In other words, it's 180 degrees removed from former US President Barack Obama."

Bismuth also quoted Trump as saying, "I love the nation in Israel. I'm working very hard so there will be peace between Israel and between the Palestinians, and I really hope it will happen sooner than anyone ever expected."

"This is a great opportunity, and it's good for everyone. It's a deal that's good for all of us. This will be my greatest achievement, if I succeed in accomplishing it. We have the right people to do it."

Regarding his election promise to move the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, Bismuth said, "When I reminded him that he promised to move the Embassy to Jerusalem before the elections, Trump said he's not someone who breaks promises. When I asked him in the interview on Thursday if he had recanted his promise because of Arab pressure, he said it's not the time for it."

"'We're working on a lot of interesting things right now,' he told me. 'We'll talk about it later.'"
