A 20-year-old IDF soldier from the elite Maglan unit was moderately to seriously injured Wednesday in a parachuting accident which occurred near Rosh Pinah. The soldier's family was informed of the incident.

The soldier, who fell during a parachuting exercise, was transferred to Rambam hospital in Haifa. His condition is described as stable.

The IDF has opened an initial inquiry of the accident which revealed that the soldier had deviated from the area where he was supposed to parachute and fell on a concrete wall. The exercise was stopped until the investigation is completed.

The Maglan unit is a commando unit which specializes in performing covert operations behind enemy lines and is trained to perform in diverse forms of combat and unusual challenges. During the Second Lebanon war the unit received a citation for its activities. In 2014 the unit participated in the operation to locate the three boys kidnapped from the Gush Etzion junction and its soldiers located the bodies of the three boys near Hevron with the help of local tour guides..
