A toddler roughly one year of age died Thursday afternoon after she was rescued from a car parked in the village of Avnei Hefetz in Samaria after apparently being left in the car for a protracted amount of time.

A MDA team was called to the scene to treat the child, and was evacuated in critical condition, amidst resuscitation efforts, to Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba. Hospital officials were later forced to declare the child’s death.

"Near the vehicle on the road, we saw a toddler about a year old, unconscious after she was rescued from a vehicle in which she apparently spent a few hours," said Avraham Ben Tolila, a paramedic.

"She was without pulse and without breathing, and together with an IDF medical force we gave her medical treatment and performed resuscitation operations, while her condition is listed as critical.

The initial investigation of the incident revealed that the mother of the infant had arrived in the morning at the child care center and for some unknown reason forgot her baby in the car. When she returned to the car at 2 P.M. she immediately notified MDA.
