A commendation award ceremony was held last night (Monday) at Northern Command, presided over by Maj. Gen. Yoel Strick.

Among the soldiers and commanders present at the ceremony was Fanny Edri, an 82-year-old Northern Command volunteer who was deeply touched when she came on stage to receive her medal of excellence.

Fanny Edri, born in Casablanca, Morocco, immigrated to Israel in 1937, established a family, and is now a mother of two daughters and a grandmother of nine grandchildren.

Fanny received the award in recognition of her dedicated and professional work as head of the Kiryat Ata volunteer group, whose members volunteer in the emergency bases of the Northern Command and the Air Force's technical base.

The head of the volunteers section in the Northern Command, Major Luba Velikovich, relates of Fanny, "Fanny is a professional and responsible person. She has volunteered for many years with great love and a sense of mission, and leads the group of volunteers in a wonderful way, and therefore Fanny is highly respected by the soldiers, commanders, and the career staff of the bases where she volunteers. The medal of excellence she received from the commander last night is another symbol of the great esteem all have for Fanny."
