Former Prime Minister Ehud Barak attacked this morning (Sunday) on his Twitter account Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, following reports in Haaretz this morning of a document about a regional peace initiative abandoned by Netanyahu.

"Netanyahu's ignominy. Israel's future and the lives of soldiers are in the hands of a deceptive and cowardly Prime Minister. Topple him, don't save him . The government must bravely examine how to exit the maze while maintaining security," he wrote this morning.

According to a report this morning, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu six months ago sent a document to Zionist Camp chairman Yitzhak Herzog, in which appears a joint statement that the two were to make to restart a regional peace plan.

The document included Netanyahu's willingness for territorial compromises on the basis of the two-state solution and major curbing of construction in Judea and Samaria.

The document was given to Herzog as part of negotiations for him and his party joining the Netanyahu government. However, three weeks after the document was sent to Herzog, Netanyahu reportedly started to withdraw from it.

The background to Netanyahu's withdrawing the agreement was reportedly the Amona crisis, and subsequently talks about the Zionist Camp entering the coalition reached deadlock.
