משה קצב שוחרר מהכלאחדשות 10

Former president Moshe Katsav was released from jail Wednesday, as the state did not appeal the Parole Board's decision to release him. His wife Gila accompanied him as he left and signed on the conditions for his release.

Earlier the head of the religious ward in the jail and the prison's social worker informed Katsav of his immediate release.

Katsav started the release procedure which included a number of initial procedures before he reached the prison commander who presented him with his release conditions to sign on.

At the same time Katsav's victims were also informed by a Prison Service official of his release.

The State Prosecutor announced Wednesday that it would not appeal the Parole Board's decision to release Katsav.

After consulting with all the officials involved in the matter from the prosecution, the State Prosecutor decided to adopt the recommendation of these officials that there is no room for an appeal in this case.

The Prison Service said that "The Maasiyahu prison is preparing for the immediate release of Moshe Katsav after he has served a sentence of five years and ten days."

Petitions against Parole Board decisions are only submitted in cases when the prosecution believes the decisions were immoderate or illegal. In this case after reviewing the reasoning of the Parole Board the Prosecutor did not see any reason that such a petition would be accepted.
