Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman (Yisrael Beiteinu) approved the raising of compensation for self-employed reservist soldiers, giving them 25% more than their average income per day.

The additional payments will cost the Defense Ministry 30 million NIS.

The new payment plan attempts to make up for the unexpected income loss, bills, loss of clients, and possible future financial issues caused by absence from work due to reserve duty and which are not taken into consideration under the current law.

Self-employed reservists who earn less than the minimum 196 NIS per day will receive more than the minimum instead of what their average earnings per day amount to.

Liberman said, "The Defense Ministry and the IDF understand that reservists make up a significant portion of the IDF's strength and ability to protect the State of Israel. We are therefore working through different channels to help the reservists. This law, initiated by MK Ofer Shelah (Yesh Atid) was brought before me and I intend to act immediately in order to provide self-employed reservist soldiers with a larger compensation package."
