IDF soldiers from the Givati brigade stationed in the south take time out of their short sleeping time to make sure that they can hold Slichot prayers.

Sephardic Jews have the custom of rising early to say the special Slichot prayers for the entire month of Elul leading up to Rosh Hashana, the Jewish new year. Ashkenazi Jews only say Slichot on the week prior to Rosh Hashana.
