One yeshiva student was killed and another severely injured when a car spun out of control near Monsey, New York late Wednesday night.

The accident occurred around midnight as the two students were standing on the sidewalk in Suffern, yards away from Yeshiva Tiferet Torah. A car driving down Haverstraw Road suddenly swerved out of its lane, smashing into a second car and colliding with the two pedestrians.

The driver of the car which spun out of control, reportedly a police officer, was injured in the accident and is listed in stable condition.

Emergency medical teams were called to the scene, but were unable to resuscitate one of the two victims, who was later declared dead at the Good Samaritan Hospital.

The second victim suffered serious injuries. The families of the two students, neither of whom are American, have not yet been informed of the accident.

The yeshiva has requested that the public pray for the recovery of David Yosef ben Leah.
