Dr. Ofer Merin, Director of Trauma at the Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, reported today (Monday) on the status of the girl who was stabbed yesterday. Earlier reports indicated her mother's partner was suspect, but it has since become clear that the suspected culprit is actually the girl's father.
"Yesterday evening, a 10-year-old girl arrived at the trauma unit," related Dr. Marin. "She suffered from a number of stab wounds to the chest; she was treated in the trauma unit, sedated and put on a respirator, and shortly thereafter was transferred to the operating room.
"The girl underwent an operation in the early evening, after damage to organs in her chest cavity was observed. As of this moment, from the night until after the surgery, her condition has, overall, been stable. She is under sedation and on a respirator in the intensive care unit; we hope to see, in the coming days, an improvement in her condition ," added Dr. Marin.
"She arrived in serious condition with severe chest injuries Although, as I said, at the moment her condition is stable, I can't say for sure that she's completely out of danger," he said.
This morning, the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court extended by six days the arrest of the girl's father, who is suspected of committing the stabbing attack.
The court ordered the father to undergo psychiatric testing, after his defense team asserted that he was mentally unstable.
