Police arrested a Beit Shemesh man Tuesday, on suspicion that he had assaulted a teenage girl living in a nearby apartment.

The 24-year old Beit Shemesh resident reportedly noticed that a neighboring family had left their apartment door ajar Tuesday, BeHadrei Haredim reports.

Taking advantage of the situation, the man allegedly snuck into the apartment, waiting just out of sight.

Two of the family’s daughters were at home at the time, and when the younger sister left the living room, the suspect pounced on the older daughter, viciously assaulting her.

When the 16-year old girl screamed for help, neighbors notified the police and the man fled the scene.

A police search quickly turned up the suspect, who was arrested and taken to a Beit Shemesh police station for questioning. On Wednesday he was brought before a court in Jerusalem, which extended his arrest.
