The 6 year-old boy who was seriously injured on Shabbat in a hit-and-run incident on Bar Ilan Street in Jerusalem is improving.

Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital announced that the boy was transferred today from the intensive care unit into a regular treatment unit. His condition has been redefined as "moderate," and he is fully conscious.

The Jerusalem Magistrate's Traffic Court extended the suspected driver's arrest by three days.

During the proceedings, the police filed a prosecution statement, and it is expected that, on Wednesday, the prosecution will file an indictment against the suspect for abandoning the scene of the incident, obstructing justice, and driving without a license.

In addition, police have arrested a third suspect in the incident. The suspect was in the car, together with the driver and the driver's little brother, but fled the scene afterward. This suspect is currently being questioned by police. After questioning, the suspect will be brought to court to determine whether his arrest is to be extended.

The family of the injured boy expressed thanks to all of Israel for its copious prayers for the recovery of the boy. "In light of investigations and evidence, there's no doubt that we're talking about a criminal, maybe even a habitual one. We will be following proceedings to ensure that the force of law, in all its severity, is carried out.

"When outlaws get their hands on the wheel, you have to understand that they destroy lives and injure innocents," a representative of the family said.

It will be remembered that, over the course of Shabbat, police located the driver suspected of hitting the 6 year-old on Bar Ilan Street in Jerusalem, causing the boy serious head and stomach injuries. Concurrently, the suspect's car was located, having been parked, as if it were hidden, on a side-street.

From the initial investigation by Jerusalem traffic police, it was revealed that the driver, 21 years old, was in the car with his little brother and another passenger who was arrested today.

The three were driving along Shmuel Hanavi Street toward the neighborhood of Ramot when, at the Bar Ilan Junction, the suspect hit the 6 year-old, who, according to the initial investigation of traffic examiners, had been crossing the street inside the crosswalk.

Under questioning, the suspect implicated himself in the incident and, when asked why he had not stopped to helped the boy, claimed that he had fled the scene out of panic.
