The "Women of the Wall" organization is planning a shofar-blowing seminar, free of charge, next week in Jerusalem. Women of the Wall works to break down religious standards in the public practice of Judaism in Israel, particularly at the Western Wall.

"In honor of the beginning of the [Hebraic] month of Elul, the days of forgiveness and the High Holidays...Women of the Wall will hold a seminar on learning how to blow the shofar," the organization announced.

According to Anat Hoffman, the director of the organization, said, "Women of the Wall have been attentive for three decades to the preparation of women and girls to experience their Judaism without intermediaries."

"We are working in practice to realize the aspiration of using...prayers and different customs for women themselves to take an active, relevant, part in religion," Hoffman added, in a subtle reference to traditional practices of gender-divided prayer services.
