A haredi newspaper representing the Yerushalmi faction continued its campaign against the draft of haredi men into the IDF, targeting Deputy Defense Minister Rabbi Eli Ben-Dahan with a caricature portraying him as a hangman targeting innocent yeshiva students.

The Yerushalmi faction, headed by Rabbi Shmuel Auerbach, has vociferously opposed any compromises regarding efforts to draft yeshiva students, organizing mass protests against the draft law and vigils on behalf of arrested draft-dodgers.

The faction split off from the mainstream non-Hassidic Ashkenazi haredi party, United Torah Judaism, and established its own mouthpiece, Hapeles.

On Friday Hapeles published a cartoon of Jewish Home MK and Deputy Defense Minister Rabbi Eli Ben-Dahan threatening to hang a yeshiva student on gallows marked “draft”.

This Monday, dozens of members of the fringe Neturei Karta movement demonstrated in front of the IDF induction center on Rashi Street in Jerusalem, protesting the arrest of a yeshiva student who had refused draft orders.

Police arrested four demonstrators who attacked police and damaged a police vehicle.
