The family of Sergeant Oren Noah - a Golani squad commander who died together with six of his men when a missile hit their Armored Personnel Carrier during operation Protective Edge - is looking to raise 400,000 Shekels in a Headstart crowdfunding campaign to build a synagogue which will be named in his honor.

His mother, Chava Noah, is hoping to be able to raise the requisite funds. "The Jewish people are wonderful, but you've got to help us. It's not enough to 'like' our page online, people need to go in and support us financially. We need to reach the target sum within 33 days. We have 68,000 Shekel so far."

Noah told of Oren's many friends who are helping her in this project. "His friends have been helping us the whole way through. Oren had many friends, religious and secular, young and old. He was a people person, and his friends have already established a memorial for him and a Facebook page that's been active for two years now."

Oren's sister picked the name for the synagogue, which they plan to build in his hometown of Mitzpe Hoshaya in the Galilee, where the family still lives. "The name of the synagogue will be 'Simchat Oren - The happiness of Oren', his sister Aluma picked the name. It really typifies him, he was such a happy person. The synagogue will serve for daily prayers, but also for Torah classes and community events. We hope that the whole Jewish nation will help us in this process and get us to our goal."
