Shimon Cooper, convicted for murdering both his former wives, was sent to begin his two life sentences today (Sunday).

Cooper was convicted last month of murdering his wife Jenny Mor-Hayim in 2009, and his first wife, Orit Coopershmidt, in 1994.

In addition to the jail sentence, the court obligated Cooper to pay half a million shekels in damages to the parents and children of the women he murdered.

The judges of the district court of Lod wrote in the sentence that the case at hand was egregious, calling for two life sentences on the accused that are to be served back-to-back.

"We're talking about two separate incidents, that were carried out with a significant amount of time between them. In each case, the accused cut short the life of his spouse, in so doing bringing destruction unto two families. Therefore, each one of the murders carries a life sentence, and he will serve both sentences consecutively."
