Presumptive Democratic Presidential nominee Hillary Clinton has revealed that Virginia Senator Tim Kaine will be her running mate in the upcoming election campaign.

Clinton is expected to be formally nominated as the Party's nominee at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) starting this Monday in Philadelphia.

Senator Kaine has a reputation as a moderate Democrat, leaning more towards the political center. The move is intended to please "swing-voters", people who can vote Republican or Democrat, by moving the Democratic ticket more to the moderate side. However, Kaine's nomination may alienate the more extreme left-leaning supporters of erstwhile Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders.

Kaine is a Catholic, is personally opposed to abortion, and has supported legislation to restrict late-term abortions.

A greater sticking point for Sanders supporters is the fact that Kaine accepted around 160,000 Dollars worth of gifts from political supporters while serving as Governor of Virginia, a move that is legal by Virginia state law, but is likely to be regarded as unpalatable by the left wing of the Democratic party, who have spent the primary season decrying money in politics.

Republican nominee Donald Trump, for his part, has already begun to push for Bernie Sanders supporters to abandon the Hillary-Kaine ticket.

Trump has stuck Senator Kaine with one of his patented derogatory monikers, this time "Corrupt Kaine". Jason Miller, a spokesman for the Trump campaign said: "If you think Crooked Hillary and Corrupt Kaine are going to change anything in Washington, it's just the opposite."

Mr. Trump also took to Twitter to try to lure some of Sander's support to his own campaign, and trying to stir up opposition to Clinton at the DNC. "Kaine is, and always has been, owned by the banks," Trump wrote, "Bernie supporters are outraged... Bernie fought for nothing! Fight in Philly?"
