Suspected radical Islamists threw improvised explosives at police guarding a large group of Muslim worshipers in Bangladesh on Thursday. At least one officer and one other person were killed, and up to nine constables were injured, CNN-News 18 reports.

The wounded have been taken to Myemensingh Medical College Hospital.

The incident occurred in the city of Kishoreganj, as 300,000 people joined together for Eid-al-Fitr prayers to mark the end of Ramadan. According to Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, the attackers targeted a police convoy protecting the group.

Bangladesh has seen a sharp rise in jihadist violence recently. Last week ISIS terrorists attacked a restaurant, killing 22 and holding another 20 hostage.

Unlike today, most previous victims were atheists or religious minorities.
