Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre announced on Monday he will lead an economic mission to Israel with Toronto Mayor John Tory.

The trip is scheduled to take place between November 12 and 18 and will be organized in partnership with the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal.

It follows a recent trade mission to Israel led by Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne, who signed during agreements totaling $100 million during that mission.

The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) welcomed Coderre’s announcement of a mission to Israel, saying, “Israel is a world leader in applied sciences, green economy, medicine, high tech, and the transfer of technologies. For many years, Quebec universities and start-ups have looked to Israel as a leader in innovative technology.”

“The expertise shared between Israel and Montreal creates opportunities for mutually advantageous partnerships that already benefit many companies, as well as several of Montreal and Israel’s universities. The mayor’s delegation will undoubtedly contribute to furthering these areas of co-operation and deepening bilateral relations between Israel and Quebec,” it added.
