It might not sound like the wisest thing to do - but then, that was the whole point.

Ramadan evenings are prime time for TV in the Muslim world, and each year sees TV channels compete fiercely for ratings, with a never-ending list of sitcoms, dramas, and comedies.

One Gazan channel's candid camera idea definitely ranks up there in terms of bravery, though.

Two actors, playing hapless Israelis who somehow accidentally found themselves in Gaza, seek to find out how ordinary Palestinians in Gaza would react to meeting Israeli Jews. And just to make sure their nefarious Zionist affiliations are known to all, the daring duo are wearing t-shirts with the Israeli flag emblazoned on their backs.

Unsurprisingly, the reactions are mostly hostile. In some cases, they are physically attacked; in others, the cameraman is forced to intervene to stop a lynch mob. In one instance a man attempts to abduct the "Israeli", literally picking him up and running off with him as someone off camera urges him to "the car."

But there are also some unexpected moments of tolerance.

In one particular instance, an older Palestinian man - dressed in black - actually engages in conversation with the "Israeli." Ironically, it turns out that the subject is in fact more fluent in Hebrew than the actor, who abandons his broken Hebrew for a mixture of English and gibberish - only for the Palestinian man to urge him to speak in Hebrew again. That moment is a reminder of the once friendly ties which existed between the Arab population of Gaza and neighboring Israeli Jewish communities, in the years prior to the Oslo Accords.
