Tragedy struck the Hasidic community in Williamsburg, Brooklyn on Wednesday evening, when Shimon Yisroel Meisels, the grandson of the Shoproner Rav, died after falling from his family’s seventh story apartment.

The boy had climbed up on a chair placed in the apartment’s porch. While standing on the chair he slipped and fell over the edge of the balcony, plummeting seven stories. He was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital.

Sadly, doctors were unable to save the child’s life.

Shimon was the son of Yoel Yaakov and Malka Meisels. His paternal grandfather is Rabbi Tzvi Hersh Meisels, the Shoproner Rav of Williamsburg.

This is the second time in as many years that the Meisels family has been struck by tragedy.

A year ago, Malka Meisels passed away, following a long illness.

The funeral for Shimon Yisroel Meisels will leave from the Shoproner Beit Midrash at 1:00 p.m. (EDT).
