Former Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon (Likud) caused "a great deal of damage" to Jews in Judea and Samaria (Shomron), Binyamin Regional Council head Effie Sharon confirmed Sunday.

"I welcome the resignation of Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon," Sharon stated, in a special interview with Arutz Sheva

"During this time, when they beat us, they kill us, they froze construction in Judea and Samaria, and are about to demolish houses built with the approval of the state, the Yesha Council calls on the Prime Minister to appoint a defense minister which will strengthen the State of Israel, which will act decisively to eradicate terrorism and strengthen the settlements in Judea and Samaria without stuttering and without subservience," he continued.

"It's time to tell the truth without shame: Boogie [Ya'alon - ed.] caused a great deal of damage to the settlement movement and the Yesha Council must say so, clearly."

The Yesha Council released a statement Friday calling Ya'alon "a true and honest friend who worked intensively for settlement rights," despite having on many occasions ordered the eviction of Jews from their homes in the region.

"During the last terror wave, Ya'alon worked intensively to protect the security of citizens and strengthening the security of the settlements," the Council had added. "Israel owes much to the Minister Yaalon for his long career in Israeli security and help for the settlements in Judea and Samaria."
