The trial of IDF sergeant Elor Azariya, who faces charges of manslaughter for shooting a wounded Arab terrorist in Hevron on March 24, begins Monday morning at the Jaffa Military Court.

His case was thrown in the spotlight after video of him shooting the terrorist was filmed and published by an Arab activist of the radical leftist NGO B'Tselem, causing international condemnation and criticism from Israel's leadership.

Azariya has testified he shot over concerns that the terrorist - who minutes earlier with an accomplice stabbed and wounded a soldier - was moving to detonate a hidden bomb belt.

Other soldiers at the scene, a Magen David Adom (MDA) investigative committee and a CID officer have all confirmed that concerns of a bomb belt had not been ruled out.

Azariya is also charged with conduct unbecoming of a non-commissioned officer.
