IDF Chief of Operations Maj. Gen. Nitzan Alon and IDF chief of staff Lt. Gen. Gadi Eizenkott held an inquiry Tuesday, regarding the mistaken return of a terrorist's body against Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's explicit orders.

On Thursday, the IDF shot dead would-be ax murderer Ibrahim al-Gharooz Baradeah, 45, as he attacked soldiers near Al-Arroub, between Hevron and Bethlehem.

The IDF then returned the body to the Baradeah family early Friday - due to an "error" the IDF Spokesperson's Office later clarified as a "misunderstanding that remains under investigation."

"The State of Israel's policy regarding returning bodies of terrorists is determined in accordance with the decisions of the political echelon," it added.

Both IDF officials leading the inquiry investigated multiple officers in both departments for their roles in the blunder.
