Popular actress Doris Roberts, who was best known for her role as matriarch Marie Barone in Everybody Loves Raymond, has passed away at the age of 90.

According to a spokesperson for the family, she remained healthy and active and died in her sleep.

Roberts was born to a Russian-Jewish family in St. Louis and grew up in New York.

Ray Romano, who played her son and the title character on Everybody Loves Raymond, told Entertainment Tonight that "she never stopped. Whether working professionally or with her many charities, or just nurturing and mentoring a green young comic trying to make it as an actor, she did everything with such a grand love for life and people and I will miss her dearly."

Roberts was on the show for all nine seasons and won four Emmys for her performances.
