A senior official in Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah movement has been killed in an apparent targeted assassination in Sidon, south Lebanon.

General Fathi Zaydan was responsible for running the Palestinian camp of Mieh Mieh on the outskirts of the city.

Lebanese security officials said he was killed by a bomb planted under his car. Pictures circulating on social media, allegedly from the scene, show a man's body lying next to a burned-out car.

Rival Palestinian Arab factions regularly clash in Lebanon, vying for control of the local Palestinian population - who suffer serious discrimination at the hands of Lebanese authorities.

According to the Naharnet Lebanese news site, two other people were also injured in the attack with killed Zaydan - who was known as "Zorro".
