Freshman MK Oren Hazan has been suspended by his Likud party from membership in the Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, as well as the Knesset Committee.

The suspension was announced by Likud's Knesset Committee chairperson MK David Biton.

Hazan was suspended for not showing up for a Knesset plenum vote on Monday regarding the granting of legal standing to military court rulings. Hazan did not coordinate his absence by getting an Opposition MK to likewise not take part and balance out the vote.

Due to his absence, the bill failed as the number of supporting and opposing MKs was identical. The coalition has the narrowest possible majority of 61 MKs, out of a total of 120.

Hazan's spot in the two committees will be filled by MK Amir Ohana (Likud), who recently entered the Knesset in place of Minister Silvan Shalom after he left politics over allegations of sexual harassment.

Hazan has a history of getting into trouble for his behavior, so much so that a bill raised earlier this month in the Knesset making it easier to dismiss a Deputy Knesset Speaker due to inappropriate behavior was termed the "Oren Hazan Law."
