An Albany, NY federal court sentenced a 57-year-old man to eight years in prison on Wednesday, after he and an accomplice built a mobile X-ray device they were convinced would kill Muslims.
Eric Feight was arrested in 2013 over the plot, along with 51 year-old Glendon Scott Crawford, and pleaded guilty in 2014 to charges of providing material support to terrorists.
He, along with Feight, planned to build a device that could operate remotely to expose Muslims to deadly doses of radiation.
Crawford was the main instigator in building the device, CBS News reports. In 2012, he approached Jewish groups in upstate New York to build a device to kill enemies of Israel.
The FBI was then alerted to the plot after he approached a Klu Klux Klan (KKK) grand wizard - who was an informant - for help.
FBI informants recorded several conversations with Crawford, including remarks he made that "I think Islam is an opportunist infection of DNA" and "radiation poisoning is a beautiful thing."
Over a 13-month period, they learned of his targets - including a storefront mosque - and even gave him a faulty device.
