A school security guard was attacked by three men in the northern city of Afula Ilit, apparently suffering violent blows to his head and upper body - despite initial Magen David Adom (MDA) reports indicating he was stabbed.

The man, a 56-year-old security guard at the local Nofim Elementary School, was evacuated to Haemek Hospital in the city, where he was reported to be in light to moderate condition and suffered from wounds to his head.

The attackers beat the guard and stole his handgun before fleeing the scene; security forces are in pursuit to track down the attackers.

It appears that the attack was criminal and not terrorist in nature, as this is the fourth incident of a weapon being stolen in the area in the past year.

Magen David Adom (MDA) paramedic Avi Amoyal, who treated the victim, said, "when we reached the scene we saw a 56-year-old man fully conscious at a bus station adjacent to the school."

"He sat on the bench and passersby tried to help him. The victim suffered from wounds to his upper body; we put him on an emergency medical vehicle and during the evacuation (to hospital) we gave him medical treatment, with his status defined as light to moderate."
