As part of efforts to curb the ceaseless incitement behind the ongoing wave of Arab terror attacks against Israelis, security forces have shut down at least three Arab radio stations in Hevron - the holy city which has in recent weeks become an epicenter of terrorist violence.

While the IDF justified shuttering the radio stations by accusing them of inciting violence, Palestinian sources and some left-wing NGOs predictably criticized the move as an "attack on free speech."

Recordings from one of the stations at least clearly backs the IDF's assessment, however.

Excerpts of broadcasts from Al-Khalil (Arabic for "Hevron") Radio, which was shut down on November 21, include explicit calls to carry out shooting and suicide bombing attacks, while news reporters glorify the actions of "martyrs" - terrorists killed while carrying out attacks.

The excerpts were translated by Palestinian Media Watch (PMW). Among the songs played by the channel were lyrics calling for a renewed suicide-bombing campaign ("Blow up the executor's innards, bring back the period of Martyrdom (Shahada)-seeking (i.e., suicide bombings), rise and strap yourself with bombs"); and another calling to shoot Israelis, with lyrics such as "Open fire, have no mercy, shoot the Zionists!"

While the daily stabbing, shooting and car-ramming attacks - which have claimed the lives of 22 Israelis and injured hundreds more over the past few months - are often characterized as "lone wolf" attacks, intelligence and security services point out that the terrorists involved are usually encouraged, and sometimes even directly instructed, by an organized campaign of incitement led by both Hamas and the Palestinian Authority.
