Yisrael Beytenu chairman MK Avigdor Liberman sharply criticized UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon on Monday, after Ban called to pressure Israel to reach a peace agreement with the Palestinian Authority (PA).

"As the Middle East is burning in Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Libya and the many other places, the last thing that the international community should deal with is the Israeli-Palestinian conflict," Liberman fired.

"If someone has been insisting to deal with this and really wants to have a chance to bring about a settlement, make sure that Abu Mazen (PA chairman Mahmoud Abbas - ed.) would resign from his post as head of the Palestinian Authority for the benefit of anyone that would be interested in a settlement with Israel, rather than dealing only with inciting and encouraging terrorism."

Earlier Monday, Ban called on the entire international community to pressure both Israel and the PA into renewing talks.

"It is imperative that Palestinians and Israelis be involved in the negotiations and that the international community to press them to do so," he stated. "The world can not continue to wait for leaders to finally choose the path of peace."
