Aryeh Stav: \"Egypt Sponsoring Terrorism War\"

Dr. Aryeh Stav, Director of the Ariel Center for Policy Research, told Arutz-7 today that it matters little whether the terrorists were from Hizbullah, Fatah, or Tanzim: \"We are at war, at this stage of which the Arab world is trying to defeat us using Palestinian terrorism. In yesterday\'s case, add to this the great help given by Israeli-Arabs to the terrorists, and given the large terrorist infrastructure in the Israeli-Arab villages, we can expect to see much more murder and bloodshed in the Galilee… Egypt is of course leading the campaign, preparing for an all-out war against Israel by first weakening Israel with this terrorism, and by planting within Israel a terrorist growth in the form of the PLO and a Palestinian state. Egypt is leading this campaign... The various terrorist organizations are from the same roots. As Arafat himself said, Fatah and the Islamic Jihad are two wings of the same bird…\" Asked if Hizbullah is also included in this equation, he said with derision, \"Can there possibly be any doubt about this?\"

Dr. Stav continued his point regarding Egypt:
\"This is a war being waged against us by Egypt and Syria, via their emissary, the PLO. The Karin-A weapons ship was headed for Egypt, where the 50 tons of arms would have been unloaded and trucked to Gaza by the Egyptian Army… We are at war, and the only thing that can be done is to totally smash the PA, in order to show the Arab world that we have understood the message and that we are ready for the next war, and to uproot their confidence that they will defeat us… This is a zero-sum game: Every concession or show of defeatism by Israel is an Arab victory, and every show of Israeli deterrence is a victory for us - showing the Arab world that it\'s not worth its while to war with us. How ironic it is that the world\'s superpower is standing by us, yet we are not utilizing this fact sufficiently.\"

Arutz-7\'s Ariel Kahane played a recording of then-Prime Minister Barak\'s remarks around the time of the withdrawal from Lebanon: \"From the UN\'s point of view [Barak said], if we are fired upon from within Lebanon, we will be justified in firing back - not just at the border areas, but deep within Lebanon, at their power centers. From the point of view of the world, we will be the element that is attacked, and [the Lebanese] will be the enemy side that deserves to be attacked.\" Kahane asked Stav if this is in fact true. Stav responded with a sigh: \"With all respect to the former Prime Minister, his words are total nonsense; one can\'t even bear to listen to them. Ever since the establishment of this State, we have been attacked, and yet the world has always considered us the attacker. Barak\'s words are simply an intellectual disgrace and an insult to the intelligence.\"

[Regarding the Egyptian threat, Dr. Stav told Arutz-7 three months ago that Prime Minister Sharon and Foreign Minister Peres were to blame for not trying to stop Egypt\'s preparations for war with Israel. \"Egypt is one of the poorest nations in the world,\" he said, \"yet it spends 20% of its budget on re-arming. It has one of the largest armies in the world, with 450,000 soldiers and another 400,000 in auxiliary frameworks, and is outfitted with some of the most modern weaponry. It has no viable enemies anywhere else, and therefore the conclusion is that this army is being built up to fight a war against Israel. They announce this openly: [Egyptian Defense Minister] Tantawi said recently that the army is preparing for the fight with the \'Zionist enemy\' … Egypt stands at the center of the campaign to de-legitimize Israel diplomatically, as we saw [at the anti-racism conference] in Durban… What happened in Durban was planned two weeks beforehand in Cairo. In addition, Egypt stands behind the campaign of Arab terrorism in Israel today [which] is designed to damage Israel as much as possible in order to make the coming war against Israel that much easier… What Egypt is worried about is that Israel may seriously strike out at the Palestinian Authority, which would ruin the long-range Egyptian plan.\"]
