Thousands of people took to the streets in Beirut today (Saturday) in order to protest against government corruption.

The demonstrations, which began in response to the closure of Lebanon's main landfill, have been growing in size over the past week. The government still has not found a solution to the problem, and garbage has been piling up in the city. As a result, the complaints grew into a general protest against large-scale corruption that has plagued the country since the 1990s.

Protesters have been yelling anti-government slogans and calling for "a revolution." Unlike similar protests last weekend, though, though there has been little violence today.

The "You Stink" movement, which is primarily responsible for the protests, says that the environmental minister must resign over the landfill issue, while the interior minister must step down because of police brutality against a protest last weekend.

The group insists that the government respond within 72 hours. If there is no response, it threatens to escalate its actions.
