Israeli Wins Silver Medal

Triple jumper Hanna Knyazyeva-Minenko wins the third medal for an Israeli ever in the Championship. Are the Olympics next?

Israeli triple-jumper Hanna Knyazyeva-Minenko has won the silver medal for her sport in the World Athletics Championship in Beijing on Monday, perhaps paving her way to the upcoming Olympics in Rio, 2016.

Knyazyeva-Minenko jumped 14.78 meters (48.49 feet) in her second jump, breaking her previous record by 7 centimeters. 

This is the third medal for an Israeli in the World Athletics Championship. 

Knyazyeva-Minenko will receive an 84,000 shekel ($21,880) prize from the Joint Foundation of the Olympic Committee of Israel for her achievements. 

Culture and Sport Minister Miri Regev (Likud) welcomed the achievement. 

"Hanna Knyazyeva-Minenko has provided one giant step for women in Israeli sports," she stated Monday afternoon.
