Hunger striking terrorist prisoner Mohammed Allan has been hospitalized in Israel for nearly a month on the dime of the state.

When his condition first deteriorated, Allan was brought to Soroka Hospital in Beersheva, where he was hospitalized for 18 days.

According to Channel 2's investigation, the Israel Prison Service (IPS) paid 2,900 shekels for each day of his hospitalization at Soroka, costing that state a total of NIS 52,000 ($13,400).

Nine days ago, Allan was transferred to Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon after Soroka medical staff refused to feed him against his will, bucking recent legislation that ordered them to do so.

So far, IPS data indicates, his stay at Barzilai has cost the state NIS 24,000 ($6,200) as well as an additional NIS 20,000 ($5,150) for his time in the Intensive Care Unit.

Adding up these figures shows that the burden of of Allen's hospitalization on the state totals close to NIS 100,000 ($26,000).

In addition to medical services, this figure also includes 24 hour security and maintenance, though IPS maintains this is not an unusual amount for the hospitalization of a detainee.

Now, with the High Court ruling to nullify Allan's administrative detention and release him in the event of irreversible brain damage, it is not clear who will resume responsibility for the costs of his continued hospitalization and treatment.

Both IPS and Barzilai Hospital have confirmed that Allan's medical bills will be paid up by the state through the end of August, but after that is anyone's guess.
