Education Minister Naftali Bennett on Monday defended Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu from barbs being issued by Yesh Atid head Yair Lapid. Bennett, defending Netanyahu on his handling of the Iran nuclear issue, told Lapid that “every good soldier knows that you don't conduct an investigation during the battle. If you don't want to help the situation, at least don't damage it further.”

Bennett was speaking in the Knesset in the wake of demands by Lapid that Netanyahu resign for the “colossal failure” of Netanyahu's bid to prevent the international community from signing a deal with Iran allowing the latter to develop its nuclear program, releasing Iran's frozen assets, and removing sanctions from the country.

At the very least, he said, there needed to be a commission of inquiry into Netanyahu's “failure,” which he said Netanyahu brought on Israel because he is “hated” in the international community. “Nobody was willing to talk to Netanyahu," claimed Lapid.

“The Iran nuclear deal is the height of political evil,” said Bennett. “Instead of trying to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons, the world is now helping it to develop one. Instead of completely eviscerating their economy, they are developing it. Instead of taking away their weapons, they are giving them the opportunity to get more.”

“During times like these there is no coalition or opposition,” said Bennett. Turning to Lapid, Bennett said “I want to tell you something. When you attack the government in Hebrew, the world knows it, because they can translate Hebrew. I would expect politicians to show some responsibility, especially at a time like this.”
