Zionist Union chairman Yitzhak Herzog spoke before his party's faction meeting on Monday addressing the appointment of MK Merav Michaeli as faction chairman.

The opposition leader also took the opportunity to attack his favorite political target - Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.

"Netanyahu is leading us to where we will become a [binational] Jewish and Arab state," Herzog asserted.

But, "we will continue to fight in every way possible to show we want a democratic, Jewish state with safe borders," he added.

Herzog's idea of "safe borders," under a future peace deal with the Palestinian Authority, include land swaps, thereby giving most of Judea of Samaria over to the PA, as well as a division of capital city Jerusalem.

Continuing his assault on Netanyahu, Herzog presented his party with a bill to dissolve the Communications Ministry, currently under the Prime Minister's control.

In its place, Herzog seeks to establish an independent communications authority.

"We must take the Communications Ministry out of the hands of the government; this is essential for freedom of thought as well as democracy," Zionist Union's chairman stressed.
