Past and present Meretz politicians are not the only ones upset over Jewish Home chairman Naftali Bennett's potential appointment as Education Minister; Likud MKs are also reportedly furious.

Bennett, currently the Economy Minister, has for weeks been demanding the foreign affairs portfolio. But suddenly, on Saturday, he changed course and formally requested the education portfolio from Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.

Sources in Jewish Home say Netanyahu promised to inform Bennett by Tuesday whether he would definitely receive the position.

According to Haaretz, Likud MKs are seriously irked over Netanyahu's tentative decision, as at least four of them wanted the Education Ministry for themselves, including current ministers Gilad Erdan and Yuval Steinitz.

“It’s inconceivable for us to get warmed-over leftovers while our partners are getting the sought-after ministries,” one senior Likudnik told the paper on Sunday. “I intend to make this clear to the prime minister in the coming days.”

Netanyahu is not expected to start divvying up positions to Likud MKs until this coming weekend, after a week spent trying to finalize deals with coalition partners.

But Likud MKs are already upset at the perceived lack of jobs reserved for the ruling party.

“It’s already clear that most of Likud’s senior ministers won’t get upgraded jobs,” a Likud member said. “Netanyahu gave all the significant positions to his coalition partners."

According to Likud sources, the cabinet will include 22 ministers. In addition to Netanyahu, there will be 12 ministers from Likud and nine more from the five expected coalition partners.
