More jobs were available at a higher paying bracket in Israel in the fourth quarter of 2014 than ever before, the Central Bureau of Statistics reported Wednesday.

A total of 69,500 positions were unfilled on average throughout the period, compared to an average of 65,300 in the third quarter of 2014.

There is a surfeit of jobs in advanced technology areas, with more jobs than people to fill them, the CBS said. Those jobs included positions in high-tech, medical, science, and other advanced areas.

In general, there were 3.5 applicants for each job in the “known (professional) occupations” in the fourth quarter, compared to 3.8 per position in the third quarter. In other words, there were fewer people looking for jobs in the fourth quarter, and more jobs that were unfilled.

The highest number of applicants per position were in relatively low-skill jobs, such as customer relations, unskilled labor, construction workers, and other similar fields. Overall, there was an average of 66,100 jobs unfilled at anytime throughout 2014, compared to 63,100 in 2013.
