Twin brothers from Ottawa have both been charged on several terrorism-related offenses, including one charge of trying to leave Canada to "participate in terrorist activity abroad," reported CBC.

Ashton Larmond and Carlos Larmond each face multiple charges after they were arrested Friday by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

Carlos Larmond was arrested at Montreal’s Trudeau airport as he was "intending to travel overseas for terrorist purposes," RCMP said in a press release, while Ashton Larmond was arrested in the Ottawa area.

Ashton Larmond is charged with facilitating terrorist activity, participation in the activity of a terrorist group, and instructing to carry out activity for a terrorist group.

Carlos Larmond is charged with participation in the activity of a terrorist group and attempting to leave Canada to participate in terrorist activity abroad.

RCMP declined to offer any further details on the investigation or the charges, which carry a possibility of life in prison.

Meanwhile, a Canadian member of the terrorist group Al Shabab was featured Thursday in an Al Shabab video released on the Internet, two years after he was killed while attacking the Somali Supreme Court in Mogadishu.

The video showed former Toronto resident Mahad Ali Dhore handling a handgun and speaking into the camera in English. It did not explain why Al Shabab had decided to release it so long after his death.
