The search for Gedif Yangar, a 10-year-old boy who fell into the sea south of Tel Aviv Saturday, continued on Sunday, but no sign of him has been found.

"We had not been in the water for long,” one of Yangar's friends told Walla! News. “Suddenly a wave came and swept him toward the rocks. Then another wave came and he was gone. He did not manage to call for help and simply disappeared.”

The boy's family came to the Bat Yam beach and watched as the search continued. “This is our little brother,” said the boy's older sibling, Hillel. “We made aliyah three years ago and this is the first time he went to the sea. They called from his school and I simply cried with his friends on the phone. He is a charming boy.”

Police halted the search Saturday evening because of the stormy conditions and the darkness. A police helicopter took part in the search Sunday morning but had to be called back because of the high winds.

Lifeguard Union Chairman Avi Afya said that the current caused by the winds may have pulled the boy toward Yafo (Jaffa).
