Former Democratic vice presidential candidate and Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman has announced he is joining the group "Be a Mensch."

The organization, whose name comes from the Yiddish word indicating a person of integrity and character, was founded in 2011 by Dr. Moshe Kaplan so as to strengthen the unity and acceptance in Israeli society.

"Achieving a feeling of national unity and togetherness is at the top of the national priority today," the organization said. "We welcome former Senator Joe Lieberman in joining the group."

The group has been supported by such notables as former Ambassador Michael Oren, Israeli basketball legend Tal Brody, and Prof. Yisrael (Robert) Aumann.

Arutz Sheva recently got the chance to speak with Kaplan about the organization, which he noted tries "to make Israel an internally stronger country" through dialogue groups and other educational programs.

Arutz Sheva held the interview at "The Event 2014," the big absorption fair for immigrants which took place this summer in Jerusalem.
