Minister of Defense Moshe Ya’alon has approved a new round of appointments in the IDF General Staff, following the recommendations of the Chief of the General Staff Lieutenant General Benny Gantz.

Major General Aviv Kohavi will be appointed as new Commanding Officer of the Northern Command. Kohavi will replace Maj. Gen. Yair Golan, who has held the position for the past two and a half years.

Brigadier General Hertzi Halevi will be appointed new Chief of IDF Intelligence Directorate. Halevi, who currently serves as the Head of the Command & Staff College, will be promoted to the rank of major general and will replace Maj. Gen. Kohavi, who has held the position for the past three and a half years.

Brigadier General Hagi Topolanski will be appointed as the new Head of the Personnel Directorate. Topolanski, who currently serves as the Chief of the Air Force Staff, will be promoted to the rank of Major General and will replace Maj. Gen. Orna Barbivai, who has held the position for the past three years and is soon to retire.

Brigadier General Yossi Bachar will appointed new Commander of The Northern Corps. Bachar, who currently serves as the Commander of the IDF Battalion Commanders & Company Commanders Training Course, will be promoted to the rank of Major General and will replace Maj. Gen. Gershon HaCohen, who has held the position for the past four years and is soon to retire.
