CCTV cameras captured the terrifying moments a powerful earthquake struck in Chile on Tuesday evening.

The massive quake measured 8.2 on the Richter Scale and triggered a wave of panic across the country, with around one million people evacuated from coastal areas as the huge tremors triggered tsunami warnings.

At least six people have been reported killed in the quake, with power cuts and damage to buildings recorded throughout the country.

In northern city of Iquique, some 300 inmates at a women's prison took advantage of the chaos to escape, although approximately 100 of them have voluntarily returned, according to the BBC.
