A one-year-old baby was killed in Jerusalem on Thursday, after a fire broke out in an apartment in the hareidi neighborhood of Geula.

United Hatzalah and Magen David Adom crews arrived at the apartment on Tzefania Street, where they attempted to resuscitate the baby before sending him in a mobile care unit to Jerusalem's Shaarei Tzedek Hospital.

Doctors at the hospital fought for the infant's life, but after a short while were forced to pronounce him dead.

Yochai, a witness to the event, told Arutz Sheva "I passed by Tzefania Street and saw a lot of smoke going up from an apartment building. Rescue workers arrived quickly and got all residents out of the building. They were really upset about the serious wounds to the baby."
