Rabbi Ya'akov Medan, one of the leading Rabbis at Yeshivat Har Etzion in Alon Shvut, urged the hareidi sector on Friday to stop the waves of recent incitement against the Religious Zionist Jewish Home party and other government ministers.
"Unfortunately, there are people who use discord for their [own] benefit," Rabbi Medan stated, in an interview with Arutz Sheva. "We saw the vilification in an animated film, which is terrifying ... an attempt to make a comparison between the evil Haman and [Jewish Home Chairman] Naftali Bennett - the hareidi community should repent."
Rabbi Medan stressed that while he personally does not support the hareidi draft - which precipitated the incitement - the draft itself is unlikely to hurt the hareidi community.
"The enacting of the [enlistment] law itself lends to a bad atmosphere, but in actuality the law will not make the situation worse," he noted.
If anything, Rabbi Medan said, the hareidi community needs to thank Jewish Home, which fought furiously to make sure the enlistment draft would incur as little harm to the hareidi community as possible, under the circumstances.
Despite the ongoing tension between the two communities, the rabbi also emphasized that what the Jewish people needs is unity - not discord.
"We have deep disagreements with the hareidi world on several issues, but we must give them the respect they are due," Rabbi Medan declared.
